On October 14-15, 2025, a meeting of the Commission for Antarctic and Extreme Environments Research of the Romanian Academy with representatives of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute took place at the Romanian Academy. We note that the Commission also includes members of the Romanian Society of Bioengineering and Biotechnology.
The Bulgarian research infrastructure was presented, the Antarctic research base “St. Kliment Ohridski” on Livingston Island as well as the Antarctic research vessel RSV 441 “Sv. Sv. Kiril and Metodii”. The opportunity to organise a scientific expedition in the austral summer of 2026-2027 was discussed.
Both parties agreed to collaborate to disseminate the results of joint Antarctic research in Bulgaria and Romania and beyond.
The next meeting between the National Commission for Antarctic and Extreme Environments of Romania and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute will take place no later than July-August 2026.
